Europe’s EV charging network growth report 2025: expected to reach 1.2 million public charge points

Europe’s public charging network continues to expand at a steady and significant pace. Based on EAFO infrastructure data, combined with separate datasets for the United Kingdom and Norway and a full-year extrapolation, Europe is projected to operate around 1.2 million public charge points by the end of 2025. Approximately 1 million of these chargers will be AC units, growing at around 17% year on year, while the DC network is expected to grow much faster, increasing by approximately 37% to reach an estimated 200,000 chargers. The accelerating demand for high-power charging from corridor travel, logistics fleets and high-mileage drivers continues to push DC infrastructure growth above AC levels. These developments show that Europe remains firmly on a growth trajectory, yet they also underline the magnitude of the challenge ahead. The European Union’s ambition of 3.5 million public charge points by 2030 means the continent must deploy over 2 million additional chargers within the next five years. Whether Europe can scale to this level will be decisive for the continent’s readiness for mass EV adoption.

Combined EAFO and national datasets show that Europe reaches just over 1.11 million public chargers by October 2025. With typical monthly growth patterns and final national updates added, the continent is projected to end the year at approximately 1.23 million public charge points.

This implies a net addition of around 190,000 chargers over 2025, a strong continuation of Europe’s multi-year upward trend. Belgium continues to stand out as one of the continent’s fastest-growing markets, supported by policy direction, grid expansion and urban charging initiatives. Germany, France, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom collectively represent around 67% of Europe’s public charging capacity, shaping corridor density, roaming traffic and overall system utilisation.
